Cypher Environmental is once again returning to Cape Town, South Africa to join the Official Canadian Delegation as attendee of Mining Indaba 2018 from February 3 – 8, 2018! Mining Indaba has been bringing together Africa’s mining experts annually for over 20 years and represents the largest mining conference and trade show on the continent. Cypher has found Mining Indaba to be an excellent platform to help introduce its environmentally friendly mining solutions to prospective partners all over the globe. In Africa, where water resources can be scarce, the reduction of water consumption that can be obtained from the use of Dust Stop® and EarthZyme® for their haul road stabilization and dust suppression properties is of significant value to all the operations located within the continent. EDC (Export Development Canada), a prominent supporter and partner of Mining Indaba, will also be returning to the convention—facilitating their ever-popular ‘EDC Matchmaking Program’. … Read More
Cypher Environmental’s Dust Stop® was recently used for dust control for the gold mines in Guinea, West Africa. Dust Stop® was able to effectively provide dust control for mine haul roads. Read the recommendation letter from Acting Mine Manager below. Read Full Letter “23 May, 2012 Dear Mr. Burns, Recently we tried the Dust Stop on our site at the Lefa Gold Mine in Guinea, West Africa. The results obtained were very satisfactory for us and have brought us to the conclusion that we will introduce Dust Stop on all of our haul roads. With the recent taxes being imposed by the Guinea Government on water usage this makes this even more attractive for our site to introduce in as a process. We had a recent visit from the head office in Moscow and discussed the results obtained with Dust Stop. It was perceived as a definite cost savings and … Read More
Columbian Coal Mine Puts EarthZyme® to the Test A pilot project was carried out to prove the efficacy and enormous strength of EarthZyme® roads to facilitate the use of heavy trucks. These trucks are required in the mining, logging and oil operations around the globe. This specific road stabilization project was on a mine haul road in one of the largest coal mines in Colombia. This operation produces nearly two million tons of coal per year, maintaining a sterile standard ratio of 6 to 1. The mine mobilizes approximately 15 million cubic meters per year using CAT 793 trucks with a capacity of 380 tons. It also employs smaller CAT 777 trucks with a capacity of 140 tons. All coal at this mine moves in double truck lanes with a traffic gross weight of 32 tons. These trucks travel on the road approximately 22 hours a day, maintaining a … Read More
For the third time, Todd Burns, President of Cypher Environmental, was asked to give a speech to the International Business Students from Red River College. The program at Red River College is very diverse, not only in course material, but also in terms of the student enrollment. Although the program is offered in Canada, not a single Canadian student is enrolled in this year’s program, showing the diversity and applicability of the course to handle and discuss a broad range of business topics relevant to commerce globally. Therefore, Cypher’s experience doing business abroad is always of keen interest to the students and Todd is always happy to give back, being a former Red River College graduate himself. This time around, Todd’s focus of the discussion was on Cypher’s current attempt to diversify, and entering into new markets, such as in Honduras, where our soil stabilization and dust suppression technologies have … Read More
Industrial products provide dust suppression, water management alternatives. Anyone who has driven on a rural road or worked in remote areas where oil, mining, forestry or other development is occurring knows dealing with dust and unstable soils can be annoying; it can also be a never-ending and costly task. Winnipeg-based Cypher Environmental Ltd., run by 34-year-old entrepreneur Todd Burns, has perfected an eco-friendly way to virtually eliminate that dust and to stabilize soils in areas like mine sites, where heavy truck traffic is a constant and expensive irritant. And it has developed a technology that uses bacteria and enzymes for wastewater remediation, potentially a multimillion-dollar market. Cypher’s business motto – “Driven by innovation – partners in performance” – captures the fast-growing company’s raison d’être. As is the case with most successful companies, it took leadership to bring that motto and vision to reality. Burns, who has travelled to more than … Read More
It’s no secret that Cypher’s road stabilization and haul road dust control technologies have been specifically engineered to produce not only significant environmental impacts, but also significant cost savings in the mining industry. As a result, even with the low commodity prices and common cost-cutting measures most mines are taking, that is putting the squeeze on most mine suppliers, Cypher has actually seen a recent spike in sales to the mining industry. However, we were happy to note in the article below, written by Nelson Bennet for Business Vancouver, that it appears as though the five year bear market in the mining industry is coming to an end. Good news for mine suppliers globally! Please see the below article for more information. A 2016 rally in commodity prices and mining stocks has analysts guardedly optimistic Recent stock charts are making it tempting to declare a five-year-long bear market for mining … Read More
EarthZyme® was chosen for its ability to enhance the engineering properties of clay rich soils. Comprising of a combination of enzymes, electrolytes and surfactants, the EarthZyme formula works by freeing water from the soil enabling it to be compacted into a denser form and altering the clay to bind it together permanently. The roads that EarthZyme® was applied to exhibited tremendous strength despite rainfall, allowing for haul traffic to continue in wet weather conditions. On an annual basis, Shenhua Mine will be able to harvest more coal as well as benefit from savings due to the reduced need for dust control, road maintenance, machine maintenance and fuel. Shenhua Mine has plans to construct many roads in the future with EarthZyme® to alleviate the issue of shutting down operations during rainy season. After the positive results of the road stabilization in 2013, the management group of Shenhua decided to build an … Read More
Unpaved roads can be dangerous to operate on and require frequent and ongoing road maintenance to upkeep. Our soil stabilization product, EarthZyme is environmentally-friendly and yields permanent results. EarthZyme applications result in improved engineering properties of treated soils, such as increased CBR values and densities, and reduced swell, permeability, dust and rolling resistance.
