Cypher Environmental - Haul Road

Industrial products provide dust suppression, water management alternatives. Anyone who has driven on a rural road or worked in remote areas where oil, mining, forestry or other development is occurring knows dealing with dust and unstable soils can be annoying; it can also be a never-ending and costly task. Winnipeg-based Cypher Environmental Ltd., run by 34-year-old entrepreneur Todd Burns, has perfected an eco-friendly way to virtually eliminate that dust and to stabilize soils in areas like mine sites, where heavy truck traffic is a constant and expensive irritant. And it has developed a technology that uses bacteria and enzymes for wastewater remediation, potentially a multimillion-dollar market. Cypher’s business motto – “Driven by innovation – partners in performance” – captures the fast-growing company’s raison d’être. As is the case with most successful companies, it took leadership to bring that motto and vision to reality. Burns, who has travelled to more than … Read More

PDAC 2016 Convention

Cypher Environmental was pleased to again have a presence at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange. PDAC took place in Toronto, ON, from March 6th – 9th, and we had a great time visiting with current customers and distributors, and making new connections. Since PDAC has a significant investment angle in the Investor’s Exchange, we decided to focus on money at this year’s event, namely the significant operational cost savings that are attainable through the use of Cypher’s haul road stabilization and road dust control technologies, to help manage the road infrastructure at mine sites in a more cost-effective manner. In particular, through the use of Dust Stop and EarthZyme, we are able to produce significant cost savings in the form of reduced fuel consumption due to better management practices once our road solutions are applied. This also results in reduced … Read More

Cypher Environmental - EDC Trade Mission in Colombia

Cypher Environmental recently took part in an Export Development Canada (EDC) trade mission in Colombia, focused on infrastructure, the week of November 23, 2015. The mission included B2B meetings in Bogota, Medellin and Barranquilla with several of Colombia’s largest infrastructure companies and key sector players, and was followed by networking opportunities at the National Infrastructure Congress in Cartagena where first-hand intelligence about Colombia’s Infrastructure Master Plans were gathered. Colombia’s infrastructure program includes airports, ports, social infrastructure, as well as an ambitious road concession program that entails the construction of 30+ road projects that will add over 8,000 kilometers of highways to the country’s transportation system and will require a total estimated investment of US$25 billion. Therefore Cypher’s soil stabilization and road dust control solutions were discussed with several key players during the week to investigate their applicability for use as solutions in several of these projects. As usual, the team … Read More

Cypher Environmental - Curries Landing

Cypher Environmental is pleased to announce a recent undertaking of a soil stabilization and dust control related research project, jointly funded by Brandon University and Cypher Environmental. The project involves a very detailed look in the lab at the improved engineering properties of clay soils with EarthZyme and Dust Stop, as well as an evaluation of 3 miles of roads being built with EarthZyme and Dust Stop in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Cornwallis, just outside the City of Brandon, Manitoba. There is a critical need for better construction techniques and stabilization of unpaved roads throughout rural and Northern Manitoba as well as across the country.  The current project is aimed at providing a low cost and sustainable solution to these problems through the use of cheaper clay-rich aggregates and non-toxic organic catalysts, EarthZyme soil stabilization and Dust Stop dust control solution, that cause high-density packing and strong semi-permanent bonding … Read More

Cypher Environmental - Tires and Roads, An Uphill Haul

Excerpts from the article ‘Tires and Roads, An Uphill Haul’, as posted in International Mining – May 2015. Paul Moore looks at the oversupply situation in the global mining tire market… It is certainly all changed from the days of mining tire shortages and crises. In the current market, the big names like Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear had upped capacity to address previous shortages, but these increases took a while to come online. At the same time, the current mining downturn has meant lower demand for large tires, especially in coal where due to low coal prices a number of coalmines have closed or have been idled. This has all led to a situation where there is definitely more supply than demand as the market is saturated with both bias ply and brand name radial OTR (Off the Road) tires. The hope is that once end user and dealer inventories … Read More

Cypher Environmental - Brandon Core Shack Opening

Cypher Environmental was pleased to be invited to the Grand Opening of the Brandon University Geology Core Lab, which has been affectionately named the “Core Shack”. The Core Shack houses a massive sampling of cores that were generously donated by several operating mines. This core collection is unlike any other housed by any Universities in North America and therefore very unique to Brandon University. We are also proud to say that the Core Shack will be home to some geotechnical work being done on a joint project between the University of Brandon and Cypher Environmental that will focus on soil stabilization. Several soil samples will be analyzed before and after treatment with EarthZyme, Cypher Environmental’s soil stabilization product. Tying in with the lab portion of the project, roads near Brandon will be built and monitored for improvements to the engineering properties of the soil. Pictured below are some photos of … Read More

Cypher Environmental - PDAC 2015

Cypher Environmental recently attended the Prospectors and Developers of Canada trade show and conference. This event offers a wonderful opportunity as one of the world’s largest international mining trade shows, with delegations attending from all over the world. While the conference and trade show share a focus towards attracting investment for exploration, junior mines and start-ups in Canada, there is also a great presence from large operating mines, which is the target audience for Cypher Environmental. Although the mining industry is slowing globally, Cypher Environmental is realizing an expansion in its mining contracts due to the great CSR, or Corporate Social Responsibility, implications that the use of our technologies (Dust Stop, Earthzyme, Ultrazyme) have when used in and around mine sites. For example, mine sites around the world are situated close to nearby communities, but the dust generated by the haul trucks and other mining equipment can pose serious health … Read More
