Research on UltraZyme Hydrocarbon Published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering

Cypher EnvironmentalNews

A recent study conducted by the University of Alberta, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering, which showcased the use of Cypher’s UltraZyme Hydrocarbon product to remediate oil sands tailings.  Oil sands consist of a mixture of sand, water, clay and bitumen, and in Canada the deposits that are the largest and most widely developed are known as the Athabasca Oil Sands.  Although the most technologically advanced processes in the world are used to extract these Oil Sands deposits, there remains an accumulation of 1,075 million m^3 of tailings – enough to fill 430,000 Olympic sized swimming pools!  The research conducted by the U of A using UltraZyme has shown promising advances in the steps being taken to improve the processes involved in the remediation and recycling of these tailings. The tailings being generated by the Athabasca Oil Sands can be generally … Read More

Cypher Environmental - Shenhua Mining Road

The nearly 20 km of permanent haul roads stabilized with EarthZyme in August of 2014 continue to perform as promised for the Shenhua Group’s open pit coal mine near Xilinhote, Inner Mongolia, in Northern China. 19.8 km of EarthZyme stabilized haul roads were built over 15 months ago now and therefore have been subjected to the harsh Inner Mongolian winter and the two distinct rainy seasons regularly experienced in the region, and continue to exhibit significantly improved engineering properties. Weather conditions aside, considering the roads are subjected to a constant flow of 250 ton (when empty) haul truck traffic, and the original untreated clay soil is considered to have marginal engineering properties at best, the results speak volumes to the performance characteristics of EarthZyme stabilized materials. EarthZyme stabilization results in high clay content soils with increased density and CBR (California Bearing Ratio) results, as well as significantly reduced swelling potential. … Read More

Soil Stabilization Improves Road Infrastructure in Quito, Ecuador

CypherEarthZyme, Soil Stabilization

Quito, located in northern Ecuador is the capacity of the country.  In recent years, the city has experienced a substantial increase in population in certain parts of the city. Neighbourhoods were formed quickly to accommodate the rise in population before any formal city planning could take place.  As a result, infrastructure in these parts of the city were lacking.  Proper roads were not built and temporary dirt roads were formed as citizens found ways to get around. As part of its efforts to improve infrastructure in the city and to help improve living conditions for its citizens, the Municipality of Quito implemented soil stabilization on two major transport roads in the city in the summer of 2013.  Cypher Environmental’s soil stabilizer product, EarthZyme was chosen for these two clay road stabilization projects.
