Continuing the ongoing mutually beneficial relationship between Red River College (RRC) and Cypher Environmental, Todd Burns, President of Cypher, graciously accepted the invitation to be a judge for one of the Entrepreneurship Projects (EP) developed by a group of RRC students from the Business Administration (BA) program. Todd was on the other end of the podium several years ago when he graduated from the BA program back in 2001, and was chosen by his EP group to lead the oral presentation of their project, giving him an initial glimpse into what would be a long career in public speaking! Since then, Todd has never been shy about giving back to RRC and was happy to have the opportunity to donate some time to offer some advice and guidance to the students.

The judging involved reviewing the written business plan and listening to the oral presentation of the group, in this case, which was on their business plan for a consulting concept, called Curbside Appeal, that works with homeowners who need advice on what renovations to do to their homes to add more value prior to selling. While not at all related to the haul road dust control or organic waste remediation solutions that Cypher has engineered and sells globally, Todd was asked to participate in the judging due to his significant experience with marketing and business plan development. Todd has also made a regular habit of speaking to the International Business students about his experiences doing business abroad, so it was nice to have the opportunity in this case to get the chance to provide guidance to the students trying to do business here in their own backyard.

Big congratulations to the students who developed the Curbside Appeal concept! They did a great job at their first attempt at a business plan and certainly came up with a novel and unique idea. All the students who participated have a wonderful entrepreneurial career ahead and we wish them all the best in their upcoming journey!
